lunar tides moonstone review

IMG_5217So after letting the previous Lunar Tides fade , I still wanted to try a pastel shade from Lunar Tides. And since the diluted Smokey Navy stuck to my hair so well, it was time to try Moonstone. Now the jar looks alot darker than the Lunar Tides pictures on Amazon and their official website.

IMG_5216The color on the jar’s lid .
And now the pictures from both Lunar Tides and Amazon.

IMG_5261

That dye on the website looks almost glowing , and sort of a powder blue/periwinkle.

IMG_5262On Amazon it does look closer to my jar . But still lighter . My little sis who gifted me the Smokey Navy from last time had a similar issue with when she dyed her hair red. She used thier  Blood Moon and was hoping for a deep rich red and instead got a very orange based red instead.  But becuase of how good Smokey navy was I’ll just wait and see.

IMG_5806Here’s what it looks like in my mixing bowl. It’s a little darker but I feel like it sheered out when I applied it to my hair. Also it has a bit of a pudding/jelly consistency. it was pretty easy to spread on my hair but I used most of the jar. So if you plan on doing your hair alot or have more hair go ahead and grab two jars.

IMG_5757And here’s  what my base looks like. extremely faded smokey navy mixed with punky bluemania.

Also I may haver added a tiny bit of Punky purpledacious mixed in my conditioner to maker my hair a bit greyed out.

IMG_5778I know weird angle but you can see how grey the top of my hair is . The ends have most of the blue .

And now let’s dye !

IMG_5815It looks like I have kelp or an octopus on my head , but hey this dye smells kind of like fruit snacks! Or something fruity! I’m leaving this in my hair longer to see if it dyes a bit better.

So after letting the dye sit on my head for almost 4 hours , I rinsed off in the shower with just some conditioner .
And tada!

IMG_5830It’s super bright ! Like this blue is pretty vibrant , especially for a pastel. It’s not quite as bright as One N Only Pastel Aqua hair but it did cover most of my hair. The ends look brighter and that might be because they still had residual punky bluemania. The parts of my hair that were greyish are now a bright blue. It’s a bit lighter than my ends but that’s okay. Still better coverage than Lime Crime’s  powder tint. I will say the color does look a bit different than the color on Lunar Tides website, which looks more periwinkle. Well I’ll have to see how it fades, maybe that’s the color it changes to over a few washes.

Excuse the messy hair! When the light hits it it does look lighter in some places , still kind of nice silvery blue , but with some aqua/green tones near my roots as they were more blonde than white. So if you’re using this dye make sure to have toned platinum almost white hair for best results.

IMG_5902I do really like the color though. It’s more pastel ocean water !

So I’ll try to baby my hair and wash only in cold water , plus I’ll be using a shower cap. Also since the Smokey Navy seems like a darker version of this color, I may add that into my conditioner to fight some of the eventual fading. Pastel colors tend to be really picky. With the exception of the One n Only pastels which are becoming harder to find.

IMG_5845Well let me know what you think and if you have tried any other pastels or Lunar Tides dyes ? This will be my second time trying a Lunar Tides dye on my head although now I wonder if maybe I should go brighter neon blue . Iroiro has a nice glow in the dark blue , but then there’s also the more green based pastel turquoise , Sea Witch by Lunar Tides as well. So not sure maybe I’ll swap to another shade of blue/turquoise after this fades. Well have a great week everyone !

  1. Not related to this post but have you tried the Lime Crime Sushi hair tint? I bought it at TJMAX for $5.50 and it looks so peachy in the jar but it’s supposed to be pink. I wouldn’t mind the peachy. I know you didn’t like their blue/periwinkle hair tint but I didn’t know if you tried other colors.

    This color is gorgeous btw
