Beauty News: saying goodbye to Limecrime’s cosmetics line !

IMG_1392

Hi everyone ! I meant to post this story up before Christmas , but got pretty busy with baking . And if you read my last Beauty News post , quite a few brands are going out of buisness . We’ve said good bye to Coloured Raine , Suva and sort of Beauty Bakerie , although Beauty Bakerie was bought by another company . So I may yet still be able to try Midnight Truffle.

But back to Lime Crime , if you subscribed to thier email list you may have gotten one of these .

So it looks like they will still exist as a company but only their hair dye will be available, but goodbye cosmetics . I have some feelings about this . and while the company got it’s start under the very contraversial Doe Deere ( she does not have any stocks in the company and has sold the company years ago).  I really wanted the original Unicorn Lipsticks , as they had some really awesome colors , blue , lavenders and black ect.

Doe Deere Lime Crime got it’s start in 2004 , but got sort of an offical relaunch in 2008. I really didn’t hear about them though until I got on Instagram in 2013 .

IMG_1391The OG tubes were super cute and it’s a shame that they didn’t keep this packaging.

Of course Cashmere was a huge thing back then as well. Doe Deere also launched her Unicorn Hair line as well !

IMG_1490I actually reviewed quite a bit of the Unicorn hair line here as well . This is one of their hair tint’s , so a less intense hair color.

But not all was good in the early 2010 to 2018ish. Lots of cybersecurity issues with thier website, Doe Deere being very antagonistic to bloggers and influencers who critiqued her products , Doe Deere dressing as a nazi for halloween , a boycott, and even an FDA scandal . Doe Deere was massivley disliked and it seemed like for good reason. So many just decided to drop the brand and even when i had the extra spending money to buy new products , I just didn’t . Lime Crime was considered a villian of the beauty world , much like Jeffree Star (who ironically threw alot of shade at Lime Crime ) and Kat Von D’s brand . So later 2018 Doe sold the company the company and under new ownership , Lime Crime continued .

IMG_1389the problem though , was while some that followed the brand knew of Doe Deere stepping down , maany were still under the assumption that she was still the creative director and owner of Lime Crime . So I feel like it still needed to work on getting back into the beauty community’s good graces again. And like I said for some the Lime Crime name was iconic , pretty much everyone I knew had heard of the Venus palettes .I never got one but I was considering ordering one before they sell out.

IMG_1390I just heard mixed reviews of the formula . Some either really love the formula or hate it.

And back to the present ,I eventually had Lime Crime reach out to me and was a brand ambassador for a short time . They sent me some cool Holographic eyeliner stickers, pastel liquid liners . And even some cool teal eyebrow pencil. and then I heard radio silence from them. Very few new releases , a festival palette that wasn’t that colorful or festival inspired , a Sonic Collab, and a few new Unicorn hair products . Also word of caution thier bleach is way too strong and gave my a chemical cut , so definitely be cautious with the bleach.

And while I disliked the bleach , and some of thier tints can be abit too sheer in my opinion , their original hair colors like Bubblegum Rose and Pony are excellent and really unique shades of pink (more coral ) and pink toned purple . The liners were a bit dry but still cool and I really like these Soft Touch matte lipsticks .

IMG_1191I bought green and blue as I thought they were pretty unique , and the blue reminded me of an old school Lime Crime lipstick . I think it was called jawbreaker , but it’s been renamed Cloud 9.  I’ll have the review for both of these lipsticks and hopefully a tiktok video soon. Well it’s sad to see another cosmetic line go , but hopefully they can expand on thier hair color line . I actually do like seeing different hair dye colors , as remember when you could really only get Manic Panic ( which always rinses out of my hair ) Punky , Splat and Special Effects ( which has since gone out of buisness as well). I may have to do a more in depth ranking of all the current and past rainbow hair dyes , as there’s quite a bit and many dyes have thier own unique shades. Like comparing Punky atlantic  blue to iroiro neon  blue , or Arctic Fox Virgin Pink to Lime Crime bubblegum Rose . Well let me know what you all think and if you have tried any Lime Crime products before . Also let me know if you tried the super old Lime Crime as well I would love to hear your stories . I was considering buying an old unused lipstick on ebay for collector’s purposes .  Have a great week !

  1. I bought sample/trial packs of the hair coloring but never ended up using it. Even though Doe left, I just couldn’t get it out of my head. Which is weird considering I eventually started using KVD products again after Kat left. I think it’s just that there are so many brands out there that it was easy to skip because I wasn’t totally attracted to their makeup and I’m too chicken to be adventurous with my hair. lol.

    1. It happens , I still had a bad taste in my mouth from Kat Von D so I never used any of her products even though I had some Jeffree star products ( had them before I knew about his controversies ) . I think it’s the problem with companies that have an individual as the owner or face of the company . If they do some shady stuff it really kills the image of the company. L’oreal and other companies also have some controversies but because they don’t have one singualar person as the face , posting thier own kind of sketchy beliefs , people don’t really put as much scrutiny on them .
I’ve been seeing a similar trajectory with Einsly Reign , they were kind of a hyped up indie shadow brand that was on the more expensive side , but they’ve been slowly killing their own hype by using AI art for their pallette covers , and using their buisness profiles to interact with anti LGBT content on IG . This had really alienated quite a bit of their base and some bigger influencers are dropping deals with them . Sorry I read way too much into these lol .

      1. No need to apologize. It’s totally fine. I started getting back into indie makeup, but Ensley Reign is one I’m not going to buy from either for the same reasons you mentioned. It can be a reward for a brand to have an owner as the face of it through parasocial relationships, but it can also be the risk and they’ll lose customers if they’re caught being shady or having prejudiced beliefs. There are quite a few brands I don’t buy from for those reasons or overall the founder not seeming like a nice person.

      2. Usually if I find out a brand’s owner is shady or an ass , I’ll just not buy from them , although there’s a few brands that slip through since I don’t keep up all the time . Also there’s so many brands now too !
