lunar tides :reformulated in Sea witch review

Hey everyone ! I’ve finally decided to give Lunar Tides Sea Witch a try. I’ve wanted to try it out for some time now, but I was worried it would be too pastel and wash out like some of Lunar Tides other pastel shades. But recently I heard that they reformulated and I was curious to see if the pigment had been improved as well.

So I’ve tried moonstone,Smokey Navy, and cyan sky , of those three the darker navy was more pigmented and lasted longer . But the Moonstone and the cyan sky faded faster than other brands like Lime Crime, Punky, Iroiro, and One n Only. Great for if you want to switch up your colors a lot but not really so great if you want a longer lasting color .  Also Lunar Tides kind be kind of wonky with how their colors show up on the company swatch vs the actual dye. Cyan Sky was a little closer , same with Smokey navy but I’ve had some strange results with thier Blood Moon red which came out more orange on my sister’s hair.

First off I did have some streaks of my hair that were a little bit of level 8 blonde and it didn’t really cover . It’s not super noticable as it’s more a small band from a previous bleach job that grew out but I’m pretty this dyde wouldn’t cover an auburn much less light brown hair . So I just want to go ahead and debunk the company’s claim right there. This is a light pastel turquoise that requires white/platinum at the least , you maybe able to get away with going over a pale inside of a banana toned blonde , but it still may have some minty green tones. But Auburn and brown I think would be impossible to cover with this shade.  Also getting back to the packaging :

I like that this new pouch ! it’s very similar to Iroiro or apple sauce packets and I love this way of storing dye. It’s so much easier to use and get every last drop of dye out when compare to jars or bottles like Arctic Fox . I remember my sister and I cutting a bottle of Arctic Fox in half to get all of the dye out. We were desperate at the time LOL.

Now back to the formula , Lunar Tides OG formula was kind of a jelly cream sort of hybrid that was a bit thicker and slightly harder to spread through my hair. It wasn’t bad and I liked it was better than Manic Panic but I thought it could’ve been a bit better when compared to some of my favorites like Iroiro, Punky and even Lime Crime.  This new formula seems to be a mix of Iroiro’s pudding and the old formula . It’s seems easier to spread through my hair and also conditions better.

Yeah this is definitely different than their old formula, as I always felt Lunar Tides didn’t stain as well as some other brands . This newer consistency seemed to stain my hands a little and also smelled like a mix of fresh blueberries , along with maybe rosehip and floral notes. It’s really nice and refreshing .

Also Lunar Tides website claims that they added a new plex bond mulitplier to sort of help out damaged hair. And while alot of companies talk about bond repair formula’s I feel like this is more like extrea conditioners rather than say the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate  or Olaplex . I did noticed that my hair felt more conditioned and softer though . And believe my hair was kind of ultra dry (so many bleachings 😭) .

So here’s my hair starting out !It’s a faded pastel diluted lime crime anime, with my fringe area witha bit of faded Sea Witch from a week ago . I didn’t let Sea Witch stay in my hair that long for the test streak . So that could be why it faded a little faster.

But for the most part my hair is white with a few patches of blonde in back of my head and a band that looks more greenish.

So far it’s super bright ! On my green band I used a tiny bit of Lime Crime Anime to sort of blend with Sea Witch and then I diluted Anime wioth conditioner to do the back part of my head that was more blonde. I know Anime is super pigmented and a similar color to Sea Witch. So I left this on for about 3 hours.

And now the next day !

My hair was a bit messy after sleeping in braids But I was surprised to see even though parts of my hair on the top weren’t white they still came out a nice sort of Baja blast sea foam.

Now to show the back of my head ! This was the part I was worried about the most since it wasn’t as light as the front part of my head .

Oh okay ! Nice ! The diluted Anime did it’s job! and while I do have some Mountain Dew Baja Blast near my crown it looks like it goes with the Sea Witch on the ends.

I would say this was a success !

I’m using a ot of different lights plus the sunlight coming into my window .And I’m honestly surprised with how bright it is . It did pretty decent coverage although my hair was pretty dry , so I used up more than half the 8 oz pouch. I may have to order some more . Which honestly I may just add a few drops of Anime to really keep this color going strong . It seemed to have worked with the back of my head .

I can finally be Sailor Neptune now !

I like that it’s kind of similar to Iroiro Emerald green .

I wonder what would happen if I mixed this along with Iroiro emerald green and Lime Crime Anime ? Would I get a super color?

Overall I’m pretty happy with the results but I’ll be cautious washing my hair to try and maintain the color. I think I like Lunar Tides reformulation , but I do want to test some of their other shades too. Maybe it’s time to retry lunar tides iris purple next to see if I can get that to stick to my hair a little better or moonstone . I’m not really sure as I’m loving the pastel turquoise shades. Its what I wanted years ago from Manic Panic’s Atomic turquoise but it never quite stuck to my hair . Let me know some of your favorite hair colors and brands as I love trying new ones . Have a great week🦄✨.
