Hi everyone ! 2024 has been an interesting year for indie beauty , while some brands are definitely thriving ( Blend Bunny ,Glamlite , Cosmic Brushes plus a few others ) there’s been a few struggling . Earlier this year SUVU Beauty announced they were closing their site , along with Beauty Bakerie ( famous for their lip whips , which I still haven’t tried ) and bakery themed cosmetics , and Uoma beauty ( who made a Coming 2 America , yes the Eddie Murphy movie collection ) was also sold off and will be under a new owner . There were a few others but I really couldn’t find a concrete lists of who’s who and didn’t want to spread any Beauty Conspiracy theories myself . But this next brand was for sure kind of shocking as Coloured Raine recently announced they would be selling all their stock and reducing the price to $2.50 for every product on their store site .
I haven’t really bought any of their palettes but I was always impressed with their color stories and would often see the owner do Instagram lives . They seemed to have a cult following ( alot like Sugarpill and Juvia’s Place does ) and while I wasn’t crazy about thier matte lip formula , I was impressed with array of colors . You can check out my reviews for both the matte lip products on my blog as well . I’ll try to link those at the bottom . But here’s two pictures of my lips to at least show the saturation of color .
On top is Lucky Charm and bottom is Galaxy . This was Coloured Raine’s Lip Paint line and while I love the colors , it’s got to be one of the driest matte lip formualas . I’ve tried different ways to wear them as well like over lip balm and super exfoiliating my lips . But sadly nothing really works , they do look amazing in pictures though . So while I didn’t care for the lip formula , I definitely wanted to eventually try their powder products ( which I hear are way better ) . Plus I always respected the vision that Coloured Raine’s owner had for the brand , she was super into intersting color stories ( Queen of Hearts , Safari , Queen Bee collection , andy personal favorite the Juicy collection . I only have Lucky Charm which I do believe was part of the Juicy collection , but the promo pictures that were released with it were eye catching and very cool.

I just feel kind of bad as Coloured Raine definitely had some interesting and new collections that were original ( and yeah the Juicy palette was a rainbow ) but the Queen Bee and Safari were interesting and not based on an already existing IP like so many other brands. I’m looking at you ColourPop, Glamlite and Melt and the many other Disney, Movie , TV show , based collabs released in the past 4 years .
And there’s a plot twist ! While doing a quick search of Beauty Bakerie to post their Closure Announcement I found out that the owner has in fact sold Beauty Bakerie to another company .
They’re website is still up to and Midnight Truffle ( their famous black matte lipstick ) is still up for sale. So I may yet get to try some Lip Whips . The last think I tried from Beauty Bakerie was the little carton if blending sponge eggs , they were a bit too firm for me but they were super cute .
I may order some blush from Coloured Raine , the do have a nice purple blush that looked pretty nice . Let me know in comments if you have tried Beauty Bakerie or Colored Raine ? What products did you like of their’s ?
The Olive Unicorn Beauty Review 
I was sad to hear all the POC owned brands closing, especially Coloured Raine. It’s a shame that when they switched to all vegan formulas, they couldn’t find a good enough replacement for the eyeshadows which were the heart of their brand. I was definitely tempted to buy additional backups of their eyeshadow primer and lip liners, but changed my mind.

Yeah it’s pretty sad , I also had to look up Mented and Ace Beauty , as there were rumors but it looks like they’re still here . I feel pretty bad seeing indie brands struggling , Coloured Raine especially . I followed the creator on Instagram and she seemed to be really be enthuastic about her brand and products .
