Lime crime unicorn hair tint in powder review

IMG_1482So after two rounds of bleach (spaced out of course) and some major toning. I’ve finally decided to to try out Powder. I’ve had this for a few months as my fiance saw in the store and wanted to see what it looked like on me. Of course my hair was a very bright and deep purple , so I had to let it fade , dye it a darker blue with Punky Bluemania, let that fade, and later some bleaching of the roots. My newer root regrowth was still a darker blonde than my ends , as well as the roots on the back of my head. So I kind of knew it probably wouldn’t take to that as this is a pastel tint.

IMG_1487Don’t believe this box , this dye will only cover platinum and white hair. light blonde and medium blonde will not take this at all, Light blonde may turn a bit grey or green depending on how toned it is. And light brown would just not take it at all. So yeah one of the drawbacks about Lime Crime is there boxes are super misleading.

IMG_1485I do like how it looks almost a grey blue on the box.

IMG_1490Here’s the dye in the jar, it’s a bit darker lookiing than on the box but not as vibrant as Punky Bluemania or a few other blues that I have tried. It’s also a bit more purple toned too.

IMG_4268Here it is in the bowl. It’s almost a jelly like consistency and pretty easy to spread in my hair. Also I usually don’t care much for the scent , but this one is more subduded compared to the other Lime Crime dyes that I have tried . Or maybe I’m just getting used to the perfumy scent, to me this one smells like earl grey tea , with vanilla.

Now I forgot to take a pic of the back of my head before starting but here’s a pic from my primer review. I had previously bleached it and had been toning with a mix of the Punky 3-1 shampoo+conditioner dyes the Punky purpledacious and the Bluemania mixed with conditioner. I thought this would be the easiest way to get my hair light enough and toned close to white. I just let that fade after a few showers for about a week .

IMG_4262My ends were also a nice silvery faded blue too. I thought that this would be easy to just kind of blend that with this dye. Also my ends did have a bit of the Powder blue from when I was testing it too see if it would cover. There’s a bit of pinky lilac from where the purpledacious faded. The roots on the back of my head I knew were too dark.

IMG_4275 They super lied about it being able to cover medium blonde lol.

IMG_4280So I mixed the punky colors and put those on my roots, it’s still didn’t cover too well , but it made the roots darker so I can sort of make it a shadow root. I just thought I would post this for those curious about what the tint can cover .And possibly how to fix this if you don’t want to bleach your hair again.

And here’s the rest of my hair. All Powder blue , with the exception of my roots near my head.

IMG_4292You can see here there’s parts of my hair that look more grey , and I think those were more light blonde than platinum.

IMG_4291And finally after setting in my hair 3 hours I rinsed in the shower. On the boxx it says not to shampoo so I skipped this setp and just rinsed with water and added some conditioner.

Next day messy hair !

IMG_4318It’s okay , I like it but it is pretty patchy . Some parts of my hair are just silver and it didn’t cover over the lighter lilac areas , just made them more intense. So this is the tint, it does that only tint. But as far as I’m concerned , I don’t think this product is worth it. It’s very fussy , and you really have to have super white hair , like even platinum really just becomes silver. Plus it just doesn’t last that long.

IMG_4330Yo can kind of see here where the dye just didn’t want to take , and it wasn’t becuase my hair wasn’t light enough on my ends. That part of my hair was very light. My roots , understandably, were not super platinum , but my ends totally were.

IMG_4331I swear the heatwave has been terrible for my hair , but I’m posting this here to show how this covers.

IMG_4347And while I don’t mind the silver I do wish I wish I could’ve had an all over powder blue dye.

IMG_4322After a few days and showers , my hair was really faded , so I used the last bit of tint that was in the jar. It wasn’t much but I mixed in some condtioner and Punky Bluemania and let that set in my hair for 10 minutes .

And here’s the new look.

IMG_4512It still has a bit of the silver look , with some lavender, but I don’t know , I think I’ll add a bit of violet to maybe even it out. I’m hoping it’ll fade to the icy blue color I want. Well let me know what you think. I’m not sure if I want to buy another pastel blue or just work with the products that I have .  I currently miay try one of the Iroiro blues, Powder Blue by Adore or Moonstone by Lunar Tides.

  1. Sucks you didn’t get the results you wanted, but I have to say I love how it looks with the silver/lilac/blue 🤩🤩 so cool!!
I have heard great reviews from the brand manic panic, not sure what kinds of shades they have though. And I think artic fox has some pastels if you’re looking for that (again I don’t remember) I didn’t purchase because I didn’t want to have to bleach my hair lol

    1. Thanks so much!
So me and Manic Panic have a complicated history. I do like some of thier dyes but getting them to stick has been really hard. The best imo were the Rockabilly Blue ,midnight blue , everything else faded way to fast. Arctic fox does a little better but I’ve had issues with thier lighter dyes. I tried a very bright lime shade by them and it wasn’t very sticky. I do need to sometime do a massive index of every dye I’ve tried so far , as some I’ve used before even starting the blog.

      1. Ah okay that makes sense, I’ve only used some drugstore brand in blue and that seemed to stick better than one of their green dyes that I also tried. I cannot remember the brand name at the moment lol.
Well I hope you’re able to find a brand that actually works well for you, unless it depends on the color itself. I know for a fact that even in the makeup world, some shades are really hard to make properly (like reds and purples) lol

      2. It’s pretty much the same for dyes . Some of the best pink shades and neon colors are from Iroiro , while the best purples are punky , or interestingly enough Lime Crime . Blues , I’ve had good luck with both punky , arctic fox and One n Only .

    1. Never heard of Killstar but I’ll have to look it up . And yeah , I recently covered it up as I wanted a more even color. I’m seeing if my neon lavender/blurple will fade to a similar color .

  2. ..have you tried a soap cap? Using a detergent like dishsoap, let sit in your hair 30 min or more then rinse. It may speedup your fading and you can move on to a different shade or color.
