dior backstage glow maximizer palette in frosted opal glow review

*This product was sent out to me from Dior Beauty and Influenster in exchange for my honest review .

Finally , I finished testing out the Dior Glow Opal maximazer palette ! I had this little palette for most of the month and had taken pictures but didn’t really get around to wearing it and testing it till recently . I initially got an alert on my Influenster app and my Fiance saw they were giving an option for which palettes to test out . He knew I would love the icy opal colors ! I was actually away from my phone  at the time , but my guy helped me out like a champ !

Also interesting is that I believe , at least from what I’ve read online;the opal palette was released in Japan before the states .

So it does say it’s a highligfhter and blush but to be honest some of the pink shades were a bit too frosty and sheer to really be a blush. Like I could see using them on top of a blush , and that being really pretty , but by themselves they’re definitely highlighters.

The packaging is really pretty , plastic and faux metal , but it shows off the icy shades really well.

I love the pearlescent pans , the blue and pink in particular are super pretty.

Now next I’ll see how they swatch. Also these highlighters are very soft and the Dior imprint is mostly rubbed off on my palette . Specifically the blue/white on the bottom, I had to really dig my brush into it. My fan brush just didn’t work with this formula at all and I had to use a larger angled strobe brush instead. And even my fingers to really pick up powder. I never had this issue with any of the other highlighters in my collection though.

I took multiple pictures and sadly , no matter the lighting , they looked really similar. The top is the white pan and it’s a bit more of a scattered glitter ,it’s sort of a glitter bomb and really shows up on like brows and when I use it on top of my cheeks . But it definitely looks more like a body glitter than highlighter.  The second is the more peachy pink, it has some gold reflect but it’s not really that different from the other pink. You can sort of see a difference on my arms but not really when worn on my cheeks.

And lastly the ever hard to photograph blue shade. It’s reflecting more silvery white and is super sheer. I did test it out on my eyes as well with glitter glue , and it does reflect violet as well as blue in some angles. But it’s really sheer and has to be built up to really show up on my face or eyes .

I was really trying to get better pics but they all kind of look samey to be honest.

At least the second pink shade looks more frosty and noticeable here though. And super close up blurry pic but at least you can see how the blue reflects a bit better.

I noticed that blue also kind of relects purple too. I initially wore this look out to for a night out, I do remember having to basically layer more and more highlighter as this is one of the sheerest in the palette. Again my fan brush does not pick up this formula so I had to use a thicker angled brush and kind of swipe it over my cheeks . I wanted to love this one more than I did . It’s sheer and sparkly but I feel like if I want to go for a similar look I’ll be pulling out either my Nyx buttermelt highlight in no 1 butta or for a more otherworldly blue; venus swing. I feel like those are stronger more pigmented highligters that I honestly are easier to pick up on my brushes.

This is probably the best picture showing off the blue sparkle.

This last picture I decided to layer one of the pink shades over the blue sparkles. It loks more frosty but honestly kind of the same lol.

On to the next look . This time I tried using the whole palette on my face.

I also tried using the blue on my eyes , and the white on my brow bone.

The white is honestly the shiniest in the palette , it gives kind of a wet look but is also a slioght glitter bomb . I have yet to try on my cheeks , but I’ll probably try that next in a future look . the blue is still pretty hard to work with , it’s shimmery but hard to pick up with my little brushes even when I spritz them with setting spray. I was also using glitter glue. I’m not a huge fan of the overly dry formula . The white shimmer does not have this provbably and is pretty easy to pick up with a brush .

Also you can’t really see it in these photos but where the shimmer was in my creases , it looked more violet. Kind of cool but I wish it was easier to use .

This is probably the best picture I have the blue .

As for the two pink pans I mixed them on my cheeks , one was a bit more frosty and you can sort of see it in angles .

It’s a nice palette but it’s not a great palette in my opinion. It’s pretty and probably good for those who don’t want to go overboard on thier highlighter but it seems like for me it’s a very picky formula that can be hard to pick up with a brush and even on fingertips. The swatches on my arm seemed to take forever to really build up . I would only recommend this palette if you collect Dior palettes or really like those super sheer colors.  Otherwise there are justr better options on the market for highlioghters , and also quite a bit cheaper than Dior .  Well that’s all for now , I will be back with a Sheglam UFO highlighter review and a pretty cool color shifting Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers lip gloss . So let me know what you think . Are the other Dior Glow Maximizer palettes like this ? maybe it’s just the color selection ?

  1. They remind a lot of early 2000s makeup in the pan. Though they don’t have color payoff body glitter was a thing back then. Maybe that’s what they were going for. Body glitter…but as a highlighter.

  2. It’s unfortunate that this palette didn’t end up turning out as well as you hoped. It’s clear you tried really hard to make it work and gave it plenty of chances, tried it on your eyes too, etc. Every time I see photos of the deep one in the range, I get tempted to make a purchase, but I know this formula just isn’t for me. Pretty colors, but it doesn’t fit my makeup preferences either.

    1. Aw thank you ! Some products are just really finicky , and I have so many other nice highlighters that work better without all the fuss . I still need a good dupe of the wet n wild pac man pellet blushlighter. That formula is so amazing even though it was sort of a novelty buy . Well at least I have a UFO to test out next 🛸.
