Juvia’s Place Culture 2 PALETTE REVIEW

IMG_3015So it’s taken me a while to try and test out most of this palette and I’m currently still testing shades and color combinations . But I wanted to go ahead and share the swatches and my thoughts on the palette overall.

You can also check out my more in depth look at some of the shimmers in my sneak peek post .

IMG_3014Here’s both Culture palettes . I believe the first one was released last year , with this being the follow up.

IMG_3018Here’s a comparison between the two; the first one is definitely more purple dominated , while this one has a nice selection of greens , yellows, some olives and the shimmers here are more in the gold , orange, pewter, duochrome greens, and that amazing red/ pink reflect Jolof.

IMG_3026

A few names for shades were reused from past palettes , including the first Culture palette, but they are totally different colors and finishes.

My first swatches are the first two rows . Also for my reviews , all swatches are on bare skin , but my eye looks are used over Nyx glitter glue for shimmer and metallic shades , and Nyx jumbo pencil as a white base. I think this helps the colors pop and last longer on my eyelids. They’re oily so I need a good eye base.

IMG_3036

I like that there’s this nice kind of grungy avacado shade , Cape Town. It’s pretty unique for me and I’m glad to have this in my collection. Same with Jos, Afro beats and Batik.

IMG_3038a closer look at those shimmers. Also that matte green is just wonderful.

IMG_3039These are honestly some of the prettiest shimmers Juvia’s has put out, I think it was last year with both the Culture and the Garden of Juvia’s , they’ve made this new shimmer formula that reflects light so well. Also I’ve had great luck with being able to blend out the darker shades , so a huge upgrade from the past Rebel Army mini.

IMG_3042These two middle rows are pretty fun and I think that this one really sets it apart from the first one. We have nice matte cobolt color that actually blends out really well, this beautiful tangerine, a nice fucshia , this pink and red duochrome, another orange, beautiful gold/bronze Rivers, and some champagne and taupe shimmers.

closer look at the shimmers. Beads was cut off but you can see it better on the swacth above as well as the short video.

IMG_3053I really like these rows too , there’s some nice coral, neon peach shades, a beautiful nude/pink duochrome, a wine shade ( that also blends very nicely), a lavender matte shade, a matte teal, golden champagne shimmer, and purple and blue duochrome shimmer.

And here’s an upclose look at the shimmers.

And finally some looks:

Scarab beetle time !

IMG_3063I really liked Jos ! so much so I added it over my liner too! So definitely keep this in mind if you want to spice uo your liner look. Also  Festive , Fufu , and Serengeti were used as well as Lagos ( the blue/purple shimmer) on the bottom. And Soweto (sandy matte) was used to blend between the lime green and darker green shades.

IMG_3086 I was going for a more dramatic sort of 80s look.

Now for the second look I wanted to go cooler and try out Afro Beats.

IMG_3135So to me Afro Beat’s had a nice blue green reflect but in certain directions it looked almost pink but this could’ve been due to the lilac or lavender shade I used. Plus it blended in really well the colbolt blue shade Delta. This was a really nice surprise as sometimes the darker blues don’t blend like at all. And Serengeti was blended into the bottom too.

IMG_3138Kind of a blurry pic but you can see the shimmer really well. It’s definitely one of my new favorites.

IMG_3159And it worked with my new bleached hair !

And a Barbie pink look!

IMG_3259So I wanted to use Jollof, the shimmery pink/red duochrome, and wanted to keep it to the pink and coral shades. I used Safari ,Bintou, and Bantu. At first I was worried that Jollof didn’t shine enough here but I kind of liked it.

IMG_3361And for sunset colors I wanted to use the wine shade and the nice gold shimmers. I used Queen Vibes ( the matte orange), Yaounde the matte terracotta orange , blended into Dashiki (matte wine red),Kingdom on top and Rivers on the bottom.

IMG_3365

I was really happy that the darker wine and oranges were pretty easy to blend out. I have a few other shades like this but sometimes they take more time to blend.

IMG_3447Now on the other side of the spectrum, I wanted to use the avacado shade , Cape Town. This was a color I was kind of excited about cause I don’t really have a dupe for it and it looks pretty neat paired with the lime green shade. But I had a really messy blend and I’m not sure if maybe this formula for this green is a bit stiffer or harder blend out. I did try for a while and wanted to salvage my look so I added Lime Crime’s powder blue liner. I thought it would contrast nicely with the greens .I used Batik for the shimmer and the matte yellow Waroba.

IMG_3444

IMG_3464I feel like I liked it a little better than when I took the close up pictures, it’s just Cape Town definitely needs more time to blend out . Still a really nice shade.

And final look for the review !

IMG_3498So yes there are still some color combos I haven’t posted or taken pictures of but I thought I could share those in future posts , as this is a very big palette that will be keeping me busy for quite a while. I won’t lie I really love the greens here , and wanted a grungier green , with this taupe/silver shimmer.  I mixed the darker green Fufu, blended in Serengeti ( the matte teal ) and wanted to cool it even more so I added the blue Delta shade. As this was a quick look before going out , I tried to keep it a little more simple , and finished up with Shuku on top, and Yoruba on the bottom.

IMG_3497

IMG_3565And pair it witha teal lip !

Well this was kind of long review, but I feel like I really got a feel for all the colors and I liked so many of the greens, corals , the duochromes and other shimemers are also really good.  A few shades were a bit harder to blend but nothing unworkable , and the variety of colors was really good, plus I felt that it was different enough from the first Culture palette to definitely warrent adding this to my collection.  Also for those wondering there is no pressed glitter shades, so that’s definitely a step up from the previous Wahala 1 and 2. I love both of them  but I don’t reach for the glitters very often. Let me know what you think . And if you have any questions about the palette I’ll be more than happt to answer:)

  1. Since I didn’t have the best time with the Rebel palette (loved the colors but not the formula), it’s great to hear the formula in this one is an upgrade. I ordered a few Juvia palettes during the Juneteenth sale (still hasn’t shipped) and considered getting this one on sale, but I didn’t. Maybe I’m regretting that a little bit. lol.

    1. I really like and I do think the mattes are a big upgrade from the mini formula. Out of curiosity what palettes did you order ? I do kind of want the Olori 3 . I’m trying to stay away from sales so I don’t order as much . I do want to try out this brand called Girlcult from China . They have this really interesting palette series called Cyber Tears that look futuristic and have multichrome shimmers.

      1. I ordered coffee shop, fula, and the bronze and blush ones. Interesting about the Girlcult one. I’m unfamiliar with that brand but that’s cool if they have multichromes in their palettes!

      2. The Coffee shop interested me too ! It’s so pretty ! I can’t wait to see your swatches ! Also I just looked up the Fula , that’s pretty too !
The Girlcult palette’s are quite small , but they look like some abalone shell sci fi art piece . I’m a big fan of interesting themes and concepts in makeup , so one of these day’s I’ll pull the trigger and try them .

  2. Loving those swatches!!!Especially the greens and olives *swooon*

I honestly am so out of touch with new releases, because I had no idea they had released big palettes such as these, I’m so used to seeing their smaller ones :p

Love the looks as well, super nice job! 😀

    1. I was so happy with the greens and olives , I don’t have a ton of olive shades , so it’s nice to have them here . And yes a majority of the Juvia’s place palettes are smaller , and I usually stay away from huge palettes , but I liked the variety here . Their first Culture palette is very nice too , but more purples .

      1. I swear olive anything in makeup is not a thing and it makes me mad that it isn’t cause I love those shades lol.
Ill have to take a look at them and see if they interest me enough. I have so many palettes I feel like I’m coming close to having the majority of the shades they have in random palettes (I try not to get anything that’s too similar to what I already have)

      2. Yeah I’ve been more choosy with color stories and finishes recently.I did add some more mini palettes that I need to review , but the shimmers are all pretty unique to me. And yes Olives are under utilized
