Heinz Hot Varieties Vox Box : Chipotle, jalapeño, and Habanero ketchup review

IMG_4120Alrighty , I’ve been neglecting this review as it’s not the most glamorous post. It’s a post about spicy ketchup, and that’s a bit odd even though I have reviewed other food items here. And I’ll be honest , I have a complicated relationship with ketchup, I really don’t like it. Usually, the big exception is Whataburger’s Spicy Ketchup , which you can sometimes find in a bottle at certain grocery stores and at Whataburger chains. And while fast food isn’t the healthiest , Whataburger fries and spicy ketchup are pretty good. So good that I actually like breading and frying my own fish and dipping it in Whataburger Spicy ketchup. I did one time try another brand, I don’t think it was Heinz , and it wasn’t very good. So while my fiance was pretty excited about this box I was worried. Would I like it?

IMG_4125And look at that, there’s something about the colors they chose for the box, happy lime and red contrasted with the peppers. It’s pretty festive and once I opened it , I was more excited .They also sent a metal bowl , but I usually don’t like using metal stuff around tomatos or vinegar, so it’ll be swapped to a candy bowl or something.

And let’s start with the jalapeño flavor !

IMG_4129This one in my opinion wasn’t bad , still lacked the body and kick of the Whataburger Spicy ketchup though. And I should say right away I have a bias . But it’s fruity and has a bit of spice. Not too much vinegar , and pretty inoffensive. It was best on flour breaded fried fish, and may also be alright on hashbrowns. I prefer my hashbrowns to have a smokey flavor so I usually use Chipotle Tabasco sauce. But my fiance liked it altough he said it could do with more spice. This one one would probably good for those that just want a hint of spicy and like to have a fruity taste as well, it would probably be good on burgers .

IMG_4133Next up is Chipotle ! This one I liked the best. It has a really nice smokey taste as well as nice amount of spice. I feel like there’s more going on with this one than the jalapeño ketchup . Also worth noting is that all three aren’t super vinegar heavy in taste , which I appreciated . As for the other ketchup , I used this one pan fried fish and hashbrowns. I don’t use ketchup that often for food and those are the main things I would eat with ketchup.I was considering using it on a Beyond Burger , but I had alreadu added tons of tomato , avacado and lettuce, ketchup just seemed too much. Overall this I think had the most rebuy value because of the smoked flavor.

And finally the Habanero !

IMG_4127This one was the spiciest , but not overbearing spicy. This was probably my second favorite after the chipotle. It had a really good flavor and is really good on fried fish and hashbrowns. It’s got a really good pepper flavor too , and very smooth. I think this is another one that I would rebuy if I ran out. I don’t think this is too spicy but it’s got a really good flavor.

I was pleasently surprised I didn’t think I would like these that much, but I’m happy to try them out. I do plan on bringing them over to a family member’s house so they can try them out too, since they use ketchup on their burgers . Well have a great week !
